Chael Sonnen vs Anderson Silva for UFC 117
On ESPN’s Jim Rome is Burning, Dana White announced that Chael Sonnen will be the next person to fight Anderson Silva. They are now planning this to take place in Utah for UFC 117. He also said that he has warned Silva if he ever acts like this again he will be cut from the UFC. They say that Chael earned the title fight when he defeated Nate Marquardt in February for his third straight victory. Sonnen has been a name that has been thrown around for a while as a possible person to fight Silva, but by far not at the top of the list. They spent a ton of time in UFC 112 hinting at the possibility that “The Spider” would drop weight after this fight and take on GSP next. But that chance got taken away from him after that shitty performance. Then there was also talk about him fighting Vitor Belfort, who was suppose to be Silva’s opponent in UFC 112. So personally this seems like a ploy to me. Does Chael’s 3 fight win streak really mean he gets a title shot. Alot of fighters have won 3 fights in a row. Anderson Silva has a UFC record setting 11 straight victories in the Octagon. To me this sound like Dana White realizes everyone’s pissed. We all know “The Spider” is a great fighter but we cant trust him now. So Dana hands him a fighter who is good, one the fans can root for, and hope ko’s him, but should be an easy slaughter for Silva. He knows there are alot of people that wont watch the fight at first because of what happened in 112. Then when Silva demolishes Sonnen, like he did to my favorite Forrest Griffen, it will get people talking about him again, in a positive manner this time. Once the fans have alittle renewed faith in the guy by seeing him fight they way he should and after he apologizes to the fans, telling us how he will never do that again. That will be when Dana White finally will give us the big fight that Anderson Silva blew the chance of getting by acting like a fool in UFC 112, Invincible. That will be the fight I want to see, the fight where they finally put him against a real game opponent who actually has a chance at knocking his head off.
